Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 promises to be a significant step up for the CoD franchise, introducing lots of new mechanics and features on an upgraded game engine. With the game promising such a different experience, it's always best to get an early taster of what's to come. Step forward, the Modern Warfare 2 beta.


Activision always releases a beta before the release of a main series Call of Duty game, and Modern Warfare 2 is no different. During this time, you'll be able to get a feel for those new mechanics, play around with the new MW2 Gunsmith that lets you tune each attachment, and ultimately decide whether this is the FPS game for you.


Here we ’ll go over everything we know so far about the Modern Warfare 2 beta, including potential dates, how to access it, and what kind of modes you can expect to be playing.

MODERN WARFARE 2 BETA

Activision has confirmed that there will be a Modern Warfare 2 beta at some point before launch, as early access to it is one of the benefits of grabbing a Modern Warfare 2 preorder.


This will be a free open beta, and according to some small print on the Call of Duty website, will last a minimum of two days.

MODERN WARFARE 2 BETA EARLY ACCESS

You can get early access to the Modern Warfare 2 beta by pre-ordering any version of the game.


When you decide to drop some cash on a Modern Warfare 2 pre-order, you'll be automatically granted early access to the Open Beta on the same platform you made the purchase. 'll be sent a code that you can redeem to grant you open beta access. Full details on how to do that can be found here.

MODERN WARFARE 2 BETA DATES

Activision has not confirmed the dates for the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta just yet. However, we can make some educated guesses based off of last year ’s cycle.


For Call of Duty Vanguard, an alpha went live for a weekend in the last week of August. A few weeks later in mid September, a longer beta was released. We can anticipate that the Modern Warfare 2 beta will happen in a similar time window between mid August and mid September.

Activision has confirmed that your progress in the Modern Warfare 2 beta will not carry over to the full game.
