Overwatch 2 upcoming roadmap: New heroes, maps, legendary skins and more
Things about Overwatch 2 picked up pace with the turn of the year, and Blizzard has already revealed that there is a lot to come.
In their statement on June 16, the developers informed the community about a lot of content included in the upcoming sequel. It's always exciting to find out what kind of content will be in it, while there's still some time to go. In this regard, Blizzard has already talked about the new heroes, maps and more that will be featured in the second part.
Overwatch 2 will be the natural successor to the first game that revolutionized the hero-shooter genre. While the game will retain its core gameplay from the first title, there will also be a number of heavy changes. The upcoming game has a release date of October 4, 2022 and will be a free-to-play game.
Overwatch 2 will retain the essence of the first game but will include new champions and game modes
With Overwatch 2 available as a free-to-play model, it will be a comprehensive live service with different season content. Each of these seasons will have battle passes with free and premium options. However, that's not all, as each season will also offer new content.
According to Blizzard, there will be at least one new hero, game mode or map each season. The developers have confirmed that one new hero will be added each season, adding to the list of existing heroes to be released. While some old heroes have been reworked, there are new ones like Sojourn, who made her debut in the second iteration.
Season 1 will kick off with the launch of the game, bringing three new heroes and six new maps for players. There will also be a push game mode that some players may have experienced in the PvP beta. A few changes are expected based on fan feedback.
When the game launches in late 2022, more content will likely follow, including new maps and heroes. Interestingly, there will also be a campaign that is expected to be the PvE aspect of the game. Players can complete different missions with their friends to earn additional rewards.
Additionally, Overwatch 2 will introduce Mythic skins, which is a tier above Legendary skins. Obviously, these skins will have the highest degree of customization and cosmetic effects. It's unclear how these skins can be obtained in-game, but features like the Battle Pass will likely have them on their way to premium rewards.
If Overwatch 2 releases on the current schedule, there will likely be more roadmaps to reveal additional content next year. It will be interesting to see how successful the free-to-play model will be for the future of the game. Another interesting part will be the microtransactions that Blizzard could incorporate after the company faced serious criticism over Diablo Immortal.
