The previous edition of PMWI was in 2021 and was an online event due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Tencent has teamed up with Gamers Without Borders to offer a massive $3 million charity prize pool. The event is split into two zones, PMWI East and PMWI West, which are attended by the best 32 teams from around the world.
The event garnered more than one million top viewers and became one of the most successful tournaments. Each team also received $5,000 for participation.
Valdus Esports PMWI: East from Thailand became champion, while Alpha 7 Esports PMWI: West from Brazil became champion.
CIS team Natus Vincere competed in the East region and took second place. Meanwhile, D'Xavier and Zeus took second and third places, followed by fan-favourite Bigetron RA at PMWI: East. Martin of Valdus Esports became MVP and won $5,000 in charity prize money.
At PMWI: West, Konina Power and Next Dream finished second and third, respectively. Further ahead, Ghost Gaming from North America took fifth place, while Konina Power took the KnowMe MVP award.
Indian teams were not invited to PMWI 2022 due to the game being banned in the country. However, the Indian version of PUBGM called BGMI was released on July 2, 2021. Also, Indian team GodLike Esports participated in the Global Championship 2021 Finals. With that being the case, it looks like teams from India can get an invitation to the latest event.
