Now, you're probably thinking; Surely the best settings depend on the power of my setup? You're correct. That is of course the largest factor in determining exactly what settings you'll need/want to run the game at. But we're delving into the nitty-gritty of what effects you'll want to turn on or off to help give you the edge.

Of course, if you have a super high-end machine you can pump up all the main settings without it tanking your performance too much. But if you want to guarantee it running faultlessly, you can afford to drop down everything but Draw Distance, Shadow Quality, Texture Quality, and Foliage Quality.


Draw Distance allows you to discern your surroundings both near and far much better, being able to make out potential threats long before they reach you. Shadow Quality means you can spot creatures or other Prospectors lurking in the shadows. Texture Quality is to be expected; you'll be able to differentiate background items from lootable ones, and threats will be better defined. Foliage Quality is much for the same reason as Shadow Quality, as many players have a tendency to lurk in the bushes, waiting to ambush you. With foliage looking better (compared to blobby messes), might just let you spot them before they can strike.


Something that you'll absolutely want to do (if you can stomach it), is to disable Motion Blur. This means that you can effectively keep your head on a swivel and immediately react to incoming threats, regardless of their direction, without having to wait a split second for the blur to dissipate.
