Will Overwatch 2 have crossplay?
With the conclusion of the last Overwatch 2, many questions that arose after the trailer released just four days ago have been answered.
While Blizzard feeds player basics at a relatively steady pace regarding the game's mechanics, platforms aren't the issue.
As many online titles are starting to become more inclusive with their servers, the topic of cross-play has become more prevalent than ever before. Since the video game market is so vast, it would be unfair to assume that every user is playing on the same system. So what arrangements can be made for this issue?
While many PC gamers will tell console gamers to "just buy a PC", the progress made to avoid it is incredible. Almost every modern video game released includes some form of cross-play implementation that makes bridging the gap in the video game market easier than ever before.
Cross Play: What this means for Overwatch 2
In short, fans have confirmed that Blizzard will bring cross-play to Overwatch 2. It will not only be there for the game's release, but will also be available in the limited beta version of the game.
However, this statement brought with it more questions. This is especially true when comparing Overwatch's crossplay.
Many other games with crossplay do this without issue, in most cases having users with different symbols by name. These symbols usually depict the system they use.
Most of the time, the first game that comes to mind in this regard is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, another offer of Battle.net.
However, cross-play for Overwatch has been reported to be a bit of a challenge for console players. Many did not like to open a completely new account on a completely new platform, which they did not have to do before.
Because of this, many users did not even bother to participate in the cross-registering of the game.
With Overwatch 2 coming out after Blizzard has had more time to develop its cross-play features, players can hope this process will be easier. Most importantly, Diablo Immortal's impeccability has been a place of solace in how crossplay will work for Blizzard's future titles.
But the PC version of Diablo Immortal is just a direct port of the mobile version, so this might not be the best example. But with Blizzard and Activision becoming the same company, it means the new Overwatch will have access to these updated crossover mechanics used in modern Call of Duty games.
In summary, Overwatch 2 will have crossplay. Users who are lucky enough to have access to the beta will also be able to play with their console friends who were lucky enough to play the beta of the game.
Hopefully, this cross-play version is much better than the one used in the first entry.
